This collection includes many of the excellent new varieties to be found in the D T Brown range for 2012 and will save you £1 on the normal catalogue prices. The collection includes:
• Runner bean ‘Minnow’: also known as ‘weeny beany’, the 15cm (6in) long pods of this climbing, red flowered variety are stringless and very sweet when picked young.
• Asparagus pea: not really an asparagus… or a pea. The plants of this strange variety produce winged seed pods. Pick these when they are no more than 2.5cm (1in) length. Steam and toss in butter for a taste and texture similar to that of asparagus.
• (Chinese) Broccoli ‘Kailaan Express’: This fast-growing veg has received much positive publicity recently so we think it a ‘must grow’. A cross between Chinese cabbage and calabrese, the thick stems, leaves and flower buds are all edible.
• Romanesco ‘Veronique’: a superb strain of romanesco with a mild sweet flavour and a melting texture.
• Squash ‘Honeybear’: Included in the 2012 range as we believe it to be the best tasting acorn squash you can grow. Compact plants produce fruits that are delightfully sweet.
The collection costs just £5.95 and saves you £1 on the normal catalogue prices.
