Mayan potatoes are becoming increasingly popular in kitchen gardens and supermarkets as they are full of flavour and cook in a third less time than standard varieties. The yield is not as high as what we would normally expect, but the flavour will more than compensate. Great for growing in containers near the kitchen door, these potatoes are a cook’s delight.

Mayan potatoes are derived from ancient varieties growing wild in South America, some of which are over 7000 years old. They have been developed further in a Scottish breeding programme which balanced out the different growing climates of Peru and the UK.
